SCENE 7
The room is partly lit. The size and look of the
master bedroom is grand. Kunle's wife, Funke squats on the bed.
FUNKE
Honey, I
almost got fired today at work!
Kunle who had been brushing his mouth in the
toilet hastily peeps his head out the opened toilet door.
KUNLE
But you
weren't fired?
FUNKE
Nope.
He continues to brush while looking at himself
in the mirror on the wall.
FUNKE(O.S.)
But I want
to resign. Don't wanna work for Alhaji anymore.
Kunle is shocked. He pauses his mouth brushing.
KUNLE
Why? I
mean what will you be doing if you stopped working?
FUNKE
(O.S.)
I'd still
be working; but for you, my dear.
KUNLE
As what,
if I may ask?
FUNKE
Your P.A.
After all, I already worked as a P.A. to Alhaji. So you can't say the
experience isn't there.
Kunle quickly completes his brushing and joins
Funke in the room.
KUNLE
Funke nods.
KUNLE(CONT'D)
How will
it sound, Funke: the husband is the MD/CEO of the company while the wife is his
P.A.? You want to turn my business to a "Funke and Husband Nig Ltd kind of
company?"
FUNKE
What's
wrong in that?
KUNLE
Everything.
FUNKE
Okay, so
would you like us to share your post: I be the MD and you the CEO?
KUNLE
(Scoffs)
Funke, you
said you weren't fired so why would you wanna leave your company and work in
mine?
FUNKE
Ah, honey,
if you'd seen the way Alhaji has been sacking people of recent. He even sacked
a girl in my presence this morning for coming late to work just by sending her
an SMS. Poor girl.
KUNLE
Why did
she go late to work?
FUNKE
I don't
know. She said something about her father's health or so. The worst part is:
Alhaji is planning to sack seven marketers this week. Can you beat that?
KUNLE
Why? Is he
downsizing?
FUNKE
See? See
why I need to resign before the sack fever gets to me?
KUNLE
So you
want to "Fire Your Boss Before He Fires You."
FUNKE
Exactly.
That's the phrase I've been wanting to use.
KUNLE
Okay, but
not as my P.A. You deserve something better.
FUNKE
MD?
KUNLE
Of course
not. You think being an MD is an easy task? You should be more concerned about
giving me a baby. This is two years into our marriage. Have you taken your
Clomiphene?
Funke looks through the small cabin by the
bedside. Finds her medication and swallows a dose.
SCENE 8
EXT. RESTAURANT - DAY
The signage outside states MADAM GOLD
RESTAURANT. The different workers of the restaurant are seen very busy outside
carrying out different chores. A very flashy outstanding car is parked outside.
