EXT. FOUR SQUARE GOSPEL CHURCH. ATM CORNER -
SAME TIME
A guy at the ATM collects the cash dispensed and
starts to count. Others on the queue kick. He steps aside and Doris takes her turn. She shoves her card in the
machine, punches some buttons and the machine screen shows her balance of
N300.55k. Doris takes her card. She walks aside embarrassed.
Nuel who'd been watching closely what had
happened to Doris , takes his turn
at the machine. He brings out his card from his leather wallet, inserts it in the
ATM, hits some numbers and the sound of the machine counting notes can be
heard. Shortly, cash is dispensed.
He repeats this process three times more while
he watches Doris looking
hapless at a corner where he sees her on phone but can't hear her conversation.
Nuel's phone rings.
NUEL
How far?
SCENE 22
EXT. MADAM GOLD RESTAURANT - SAME TIME
Kunle is standing by Nuel's parked car. The taxi
he came in is parked adjacent.
KUNLE
Where are
you now? I'm at Madam Gold's. I see your car but don't see you.
NUEL
Um, I'm
somewhere not too far...
KUNLE
Oh, but I
told You I needed your car?
NUEL
No, you
said you needed my help.
KUNLE
It's your
car I need.
NUEL
Well if
it's my car you need then no prob. I left my keys with Madam Gold. Give her the
phone let me speak with her.
Kunle enters the restaurant, exchanges
pleasantries with Madam Gold and hands her the phone.
She listens to Nuel speak on the other end and
shortly hands the phone and car keys to Kunle. He bids her farewell and dashes
out.
Kunle speeds off in Nuel's car and beckons the
taxi to tag along.
SCENE 23
EXT. FOUR SQUARE GOSPEL CHURCH/ATM CORNER - SAME
TIME
Nuel approaches Doris who
is hard-pressed on phone.
NUEL
Hello.
Hi.
NUEL
I know
it's none of my business but is everything okay?
Yeah, I'm fine.
NUEL
You're sure?
Why? Yeah.
NUEL
The
machine didn't pay you.
(Surprised
he noticed)
Er, yea,
it didn't pay. Was expecting my brother to credit my account from Benin, but
the bank is just messing up.
NUEL
So what're
you gonna do?
Wait I
guess.
NUEL
What if
your account never gets credited today? What if I could give you the money?
Three
minutes ago you were a stranger. Don't accept money from strangers.
She smiles, shakes her head and tries to walk
back to the queue.
NUEL
That was
three minutes ago. Every person in your life you must have met in one day - one
moment. I'm just trying to help. C'mon.
She stops and ponders.
Okay. I'm
going to accept it only as a loan - only as a loan.
NUEL(CONT'D)
How much
is the money.

Nuel bring out money from his pocket and hands
it over.
NUEL

NUEL(CONT'D)
Have we
met somewhere before now?
Don't
think so.
NUEL
You look
like I've seen you somewhere before. I don't know. Anyway, can I buy you
launch?
Now I'm
beginning to feel a little over pampered: first the money, now food.

Hands her his phone.

She dials her number in his phone.
NUEL(CONT'D)

She takes the phone again from him, saves her
number with her name and hands it over.
NUEL(CONT'D)
(Reads admiringly from phone screen)
Do-ris. Sweet name.
Thanks.
She stops a commercial motorcycle, negotiates
with the rider and mounts it. Nuel pays the bike fair.
NUEL
I'll call ya.
They wave to each other. Nuel watches in
admiration as she zooms off.
