SCENE 8
ODE(THROUGH PHONE)
LASHE(INTO PHONE)
I mean it this time, barrister. Can no longer cope. He even hit
me tonight. He's getting violent.
ODE(THROUGH PHONE)
I'll see you tomorrow when I prepare the papers.
LASHE(INTO PHONE)
Thank you.
ODE(THROUGH PHONE)
Good night.
She drops call and contemplates.
Shortly, door opens and Tekena appears. Lashe immediately lies down and covers
herself with blanket. As Tekena goes to wardrobe, she puts off bedside lamp.
TEKENA
I can't see, Lashe. Put on the light.
LASHE
You can't sleep here tonight, Tekena.
Tekena gropes to bedside and
switches lamp on.
TEKENA
Why?
LASHE
It's my house. I built it. I'm not saying you can't sleep in the
house but you can't sleep in this room anymore.
TEKENA
And I'm asking you "why?"
Lashe ignores him.
TEKENA(CONT'D)
I've told you, there's nothing between Mercy and I. My trouser
got stained with wine and she was just trying to help remove the stains when
you came in.
LASHE
Please leave my room.
TEKENA
Lashe, you know I love you.
LASHE
Tekena.
TEKENA
Yea?
LASHE
It's not going to work this time. Leave.
