INT. UNION HOUSE - CONTINOUS

Discussing as they move into the multi-storey building’s foyer to take the elevator.

MISS ETIM

Has the team we have in Kwale completed the Rig drilling there? They’re supposed to be done by now. I didn’t hear from you guys at the end of business yesterday.

AMARA

              I dropped a copy of their report on your desk before leaving last night. You must‘ve missed it.

BRUCE

              I also sent a soft copy to your box.

MISS ETIM

              When?

BRUCE

              Last night.

Bruce taps on the elevator door button.

MISS ETIM

              I’ve been quite busy. I haven’t had time to go through my mails this morning. I’ll do that once we’re through here.

Elevator door opens. They step in. Bruce pushes button eleven from the control buttons in the elevator. As the elevator door starts to close, a young lad carrying a knapsack holds door back from shutting. He enters elevator and pushes button seven on the control buttons.

YOUNG LAD

Hope you guys don’t mind. I'm going to the seventh floor. What floor are you...

Looking up, he recognises Bruce who is hiding away his face.

YOUNG LAD(CONT'D)

...Oh my God! Bruce?!

BRUCE

              Bruce?

BRUCE#2

              What’re you doing here, man?

BRUCE

              I’m surprised.

BRUCE#2

              It’s been like – nine?

BRUCE

              Ten.

BRUCE#2

              Ten years? Yea, ten. You were always good with numbers. So what’re you doing here? I expected you’d be overseas by now or running your father’s empire.

BRUCE

              My father is late.

BRUCE#2

              Oh my...wow! So, you should be running the business all by yourself now.

Everyone in the elevator perceive Bruce#2's insensitivity.

 BRUCE#2(CONT'D)

God! I’m so sorry. I didn’t know.

BRUCE

              We kind of, er, lost everything.

BRUCE#2

              What the hell! I mean what the….

BRUCE

              (cuts in)

Bruce, Bruce, we’ve gone past that now. It’s been like 10 years since the incident.

(Indicating)

This is my boss, and that's my colleague. We’re on a business call.

BRUCE#2

              Good morning.

MISS ETIM

              Hello?

Amara shakes hands with Bruce#2 flirtatiously.

AMARA

Hi. You’re namesake?

BRUCE#2

              Yea. And it caused us a lot of problems back then at the University. There was always a mix up.

AMARA

              Really?

BRUCE#2

              If not for our matriculation numbers, it’d have been worse.

BRUCE

              So, what brings you here too?

BRUCE#2

              Interview. I’m trying to change my job. I’m not too cool with my present marketing job. It's with a telecom firm. You know me.

Elevator door bell beeps and stops on 7^th floor.

BRUCE#2(CONT'D)

              (Hastily)

You have a business card so I can call you?

Bruce reaches inside his suits inner breast pocket, pulls out a business card and hands it to him.

BRUCE#2(CONT'D)

              I’ll call you so we can get together again.

BRUCE

              Ok.

Elevator door shuts.
